Huddersfield reporter and leukaemia sufferer Adrian Sudbury admits he has just months to live after his latest tests results.

The 26-year-old revealed last week that a bone marrow test, taken five weeks ago, showed that the disease has returned.

Further tests performed this week reveal he is in relapse and without chemotherapy he may only have months to live.

Adrian, a digital journalist at The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, says he doesn’t want to undergo more chemotherapy after doctors told him there was only a 20 per cent chance it would lead to a long-term cure.

In his award-winning Baldy’s Blog, he has chronicled his battle with two forms of the disease over the last 18 months.

During this time he has endured two cycles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and courses of drugs.

He said: “In the end I decided to have no further intensive treatment.

“I had made up my mind a long time ago that if I was given this news I would stay healthy for as long as possible and enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

“This might sound strange… but after talking to my medical team I am still confident I have made the right choice – the fact that it was my choice was also important.”

Adrian became ill two days into his job as the Daily Examiner’s digital journalist back in November 2006.

He was suffering two distinct types of leukaemia running at the same time and, according to medical literature, he is the only person in the world to have this condition.

Last year his blog won both the International Weblog Award for best medical or health issue and the Guild of Health Writers Best Online Feature Award.

I dont think you are giving up Adrian, I think you are faced with death as we all will be at some point and have found inner acceptance and strength. We all have to do it at sometime (young and old) and we should be grateful for the time we have had here and enjoy every second. I think what you are doing is great and is making a difference.
