Ex-Chronicle reporter launches parenting magazine

A former regional press journalist who was frustrated by the quality of local parenting magazines has launched her own.

Samantha Walker, who was a reporter on The Bath Chronicle as well as freelancing for a host of papers and magazines, launched The Bath Parent earlier this year.

The bi-monthly is distributed free to parents via nurseries, pre-schools, schools and local businesses, keeping them up to date on education matters, news and places to visit. 11,000 copies are published every two months with feedback from parents positive.

“The Bath Parent is for families who have children aged from birth up to 12 and what sets us apart is our excellent editorial,” she said.

“We write on subjects that matter to parents, such as how to find the right school for your child and why sport is so good for kids.

“We also have great competitions in every issue, plus seven pages of what’s on, as well as food and book pages.

“My youngest child is now 15 but The Bath Parent is just the kind of magazine I would have liked when my children were little.

“I’ve never worked on a title before where people have taken the time to phone up just to say how much they like it.”
