EDF Energy South West Media Awards shortlist announced

The waiting is over and the nominations shortlist is out for the 2007 EDF Energy South West Media Awards.

The judges spent a day looking at more than 225 entries from 46 different publications and broadcasters from around the Westcountry.

The area covered took in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and down into the south west through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

Sponsorship from EDF Energy means that the awards feature cash prizes of £100 and trophies for individual winners and trophies for company entries.

holdthefrontpage publisher Patrick Astill said: “The judges spent a long time debating many of the categories thanks to the superb standard of work put forward.

“We were delighted by the number and standard of entries across the board this year and although it’s a long, hard job to work through them all, there were some wonderful examples that caught the judges’ eyes.”

Topping the list of nominees is the Bristol-based Western Daily Press with six chances for success. Exeter’s Express and Echo and The Evening Post in Bristol are close behind with five nominations each. Among the weeklies, the West Briton tops the list with three nominations.

The broadcasters have seven shortlisted entries from ITV firms up against six from the BBC, with some from each up against newspaper staff in the individual journalists’ categories.

The lunchtime presentation event will be at the Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon on Thursday June 5.
