Motoring journalism focus for Cardiff postgrads

Cardiff University’s journalism school has teamed up with the Centre for Automotive Industry Research to offer a new motoring journalism module to its students.

The module will be part of the university’s Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism.

It is open to all graduates with a passion for motoring who want to apply for the diploma – and also to people over 25 without a degree, but who possess relevant experience.

Diploma co-ordinator Tim Holmes said: “More and more people are interested in becoming motoring writers thanks to the success of programmes such as Top Gear and the high-profile of journalists and presenters such as Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

“Studying at Cardiff will not only give students the University’s sought-after Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism but they will also gain extra benefits such as mentoring by members of the Guild of Motoring Writers, specialised work placements and guest lectures from top motoring journalists and other editors – it’s the ideal way to launch a career as a motoring journalist.”

The course is accredited by the Periodicals Training Council and the motoring module is in the process of endorsement by the Guild of Motoring Writers.
