Weekly editor's leap of faith in charity abseil

West Essex Guardian Series editor David Jackman is set to take a leap of faith when he takes part in a charity abseil.

David, (39), will brave the 120ft Church Langley water tower to raise money for the Ongar and District Healthcare League of Friends and Essex Air Ambulance.

David, (below), said: “It all started when the [Epping Forest Council] chairman’s wife said if she could do it, then so could I, so it was a bit of a challenge really.

“I’m also the membership secretary of the Ongar and District Healthcare League of Friends so I didn’t really have any excuse not to.

“I’ve never done anything like it before so it’ll be a leap into the unknown.”

  • Interesting tower
    for an abseil…
  • David said he has already had about £1,300 pledged in sponsorship for the event on May 1 and is hoping to raise even more before the big day.

He said: “There are about 21 people doing it in a group. We’ll have a brief training run-through before hand but it’ll be all on the day.

“People have been saying that it’s quite easy once you’re doing it – it’s just the big step at the top that’s the hard part.

“Every day I drive past the tower it seems to get bigger!”
