Website in line for award

The Eastern Daily Press website, EDP24, has been short-listed for a national award, just six weeks after being launched.

The site has been short-listed in the “Best Daily Newspaper on the World Wide Web” category of the 2001 Newspaper Awards.

EDP24 is the only daily regional newspaper website in the category as all the other short-listed sites are from national newspapers.

Web publisher Bob Crawley said: “It is a tremendous achievement simply to get on the shortlist. We may not have the same resources and financial clout as the national press, but our innovation and creativity is second to none.

“EDP24 is one of the most comprehensive news and information websites in the country. It is packed with innovation, including what we believe is the first live news service offered by a regional or national newspaper,” he added.

The website has attracted hundreds of visitors since its launch a few weeks ago and many have signed up for its special email news alert service and the comprehensive business database.

The EDP newspaper has been short-listed in the same awards for “Regional Newspaper of the Year” and “Newspaper Design of the Year”.

The 2001 Newspaper Awards are presented in association with Production Journal and Fujifilm Graphic Services and the ceremony will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on April 4.
