Website editor is special guest

Yorkshire Evening Post sub-editor Liz Carnell was a guest at a Government reception this week.

The event marked the launch of the 2003 National E-Commerce Awards in which the Harrogate charity Bullying Online, of which she’s the founder and director, was a regional winner last summer.

The £2,000 prize was a lifeline to the charity, which carries out all its work on the internet at www.bullying.co.uk.

She said: “Since then we’ve had grants from Comic Relief, the Lloyds-TSB Foundation and Woolworths so our future is assured.

“Our workload is about 75 per cent up on this time last year, with up to 800 visitors a day to the website so we’ll be looking for more funding shortly to make sure we can meet demand.”

In the last four years more than 316,000 people have visited the Bullying Online website and the charity has received more than 16,300 e-mails from parents and children asking for help.
