Tributes to Advertiserman Len

Tributes have been made to a former deputy editor of the Rugby Advertiser who has died at a nursing home in Daventry.

Len Archer, (68), retired in 1995. Before that he had worked at the Advertiser for most of his working life, filling roles as sub-editor, reporter and district and property editor.

He had also edited the former Rugby Midweek, and previously worked for the Leicester Mercury and the Oxford Mail.

Peter Aengenheister, current Advertiser editor, said: “Len was a great stalwart of the paper and for many years was a cornerstone of the town. Everyone knew him and he was extremely popular.”

Mrs Archer said outside work her husband main passion was the railways, and she added: “He loved the people of Rugby and would do anything for anybody.”
