Time for the signs

Council chiefs were quick to respond when a woman’s tragic death was highlighted in the local press.

Workmen installed signs either side of Grassland Rise in Salford after the Bolton Evening News told how paramedics spent 30 minutes looking for Neville Ross’ house when his wife Joyce died.

The new road was created six years ago but since then emergency services, taxi drivers and delivery companies have struggled to locate it.

Mr Ross said: “I am really pleased that the signs have gone up. It’s all thanks to the Bolton Evening News.

“Sadly, it would not have made any difference to Joyce if they found it straight away, but it might matter to other people in the future.”

Neighbour Irene Williamson said: “Hopefully lives will be saved. It is just unfortunate that it took something like Joyce’s death to get some action.”
