Tallulah, the tummy-tuck bunny

The tale of Tallulah the rabbit is vying neck and neck with the downfall of Peter Mandelson for the title of ‘most talked about news item of the year’.

It all started when Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo, took his four children to Bunny Burrows rabbit sanctuary to choose a mate for their male rabbit Aladdin.

And it ended with the nation’s press on his doorstep clamouring for a picture of Aladdin’s long-eared love.

From a succession of sultry females, Aladdin ‘chose’ Tallulah, a demure black and white doe.

Then the story was born. Gwen Butler, who runs Bunny Burrows, let slip that Tallulah was actually a rather “special” rabbit because she had undergone cosmetic surgery to remove an unsightly roll of fat from around her tummy.

Editor Barron’s finely-honed news-sense immediately told him this one could run and run.

The following day, the story of Tallulah the tummy-tuck rabbit, graced the front page of his morning daily – and that’s when the world started to go mad.
