Strike action due to hit today

More than 50 members of the NUJ at Newsquest (Bradford) offices were today due to take strike action in protest at a 2.5 per cent pay offer.

Group offices, including the Telegraph & Argus in central Bradford, the Keighley News in Shipley, the lkley Gazette, the Craven Herald in Skipton and the Wharfdale Observer in Otley were due to be picketed.

The union members, around half the total editorial staff employed by the company, were due to stay away from work this morning.

They are also threatening to strike all day on Friday January 25 and Thursday January 31 – unless management increases its pay offer following a 7.5 per cent bid by the union.

Newsquest (Bradford) says it has already upped the pay offer from two per cent – and that the majority of staff and other trades union members had accepted the 2.5 per cent.
