Sore legs in the newsroom after 5km dash

Newsroom staff from Gazette Newspapers in Basingstoke have been doing their bit to help fund the fight against cancer.

Seven members of the editorial team put on their running shoes to take part in the Alberto-Culver Run4Fun in aid of Cancer Research UK, which is also backed by Gazette Newspapers.

As well as raising money for research, the event aims to promote awareness about cancers that can affect men, and this year it attracted a record turnout of more than 900 entrants who covered the 5km course.

Editor Mark Jones was among those who took part, along with colleagues Hugh Cadman, Richard Garfield, Rob Green, Paul Hobson, Neil Shallcross and Paul Stamp.

Mark said: “Gazette Newspapers has supported Run4Fun since it started in Basingstoke and every year members of the editorial team have done their bit by turning out to actually take part.

“There were a few sore legs the next day but it was well worth the effort.”

Following the event, The Gazette’s Friday edition featured a report and pictures and The Monday Gazette followed up with a four-page picture-led special.

Pledges, donations and entry fees mean the fundraising total has already topped £22,000 and it is hoped that around £35,000 will finally be raised when all the sponsorship cash is collected.
