Reporter's blind date could lead to romance

A Welwyn & Hatfield Times reporter enjoyed a dinner date with a mystery man after winning her way to the final of a Blind Date-style competition.

The 28-year-old female reporter entered a contest on local radio station Chiltern FM to find a partner for single Mike Chirnside, of Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire.

And she beat off the challenge from two other contestants with some slick answers to a few Cilla Black-style questions.

The pair then enjoyed a slap-up meal at a local Thai restaurant as their prize.

Since their blind date the pair have seen each other again and are planning to stay in touch.

The reporter, who joined the Welwyn & Hatfield Times last May after working for Scottish newspaper the Ellon Times, said: “The night went very, very well.

“He was quite nervous initially, even more than I was, but after half an hour we were chatting and got on really well.”

  • This story was initially published with the reporter’s name but she has since asked for it to be removed.
