Reporter red-faced as fire crew is called out

A game of peek-a-boo went wrong after a red-faced reporter accidently trapped his baby daughter in the dining room – and had to call the fire brigade to rescue her.

Barking and Dagenham Recorder reporter/sub Jim Henderson was playing with one-year-old Isabel – opening and closing the door – when it jammed shut.

With Jim’s toolkit trapped in the dining room with Isabel and all efforts to reopen the door failing, the youngster got increasingly frightened.

And as she started crying, Jim and partner Lucie decided to call the fire brigade.

A crew was on the scene in minutes and while Jim distracted Isabel’s attention through a window, they used a screw driver to take the door handle off.

Jim said: “We rushed in and grabbed hold of her, the fire brigade played with her for a while, pulling faces and flashing their torches at her. She must have wondered what all these strange people were doing in our house.

“It was just embarrassing really. It was such a simple job and they could have been out to a road accident or something more serious.”
