Reporter hurt in holiday fall

Battle Observer reporter Dominic Ponsford survived a 30-ft fall out of a hotel window while on holiday in Italy.

Doctors in Florence were amazed that Dominic (26) only suffered broken bones in his heel and wrist. They said they would have expected more serious injuries.

Dominic was treated at a local hospital before being flown back to England.

He underwent surgery on his foot at the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, West Sussex and was expected to be sent home this weekend.

Acting editor of his paper, Mr Phillip Elms, said: “He is on the mend, now, but we’ve no idea yet when he will be back at work.”

During his absence, colleague Andy Hemsley, who usually work for sister paper the Rye Observer, is covering for him.
