A Norwich Evening News reporter has told how he feared for his life as he came face-to-face with road rage attackers.

Alex Gore, (27), was left bruised and shaken after two men in a white transit van forced him to pull over and tried to drag him out of his car in the middle of a busy dual carriageway.

Alex, formerly of the Lincolnshire Echo, said he had been driving to work along the A11 early on Monday morning when he noticed the van tailgating him. He tried to move onto the inside lane to let the van pass, but couldn’t do so as the road was so busy.

He said: “When I eventually did move the van started shunting me sideways to try to get me off the road so I had to stop.

“The driver then stopped right in front of me and got out, pulled the door open and started swearing and punching me in the head as hard as he could.

“When the passenger got out I didn’t know whether he had a weapon or not. I couldn’t drive off into the traffic as it was far too heavy and I hadn’t thought to lock the door beforehand. I really feared for my life.”

Alex said he was only saved when he managed to jerk himself back and lock his car door, which his attackers had forced open, and it was only because he was wearing his seat belt that the men could not pull him out of his car and into the busy traffic.

Alex said: “The two men were also quite tall and one was about twice my weight so it was extremely frightening.

“Cars were swerving past us at 70 miles an hour and no-one stopped to help.”

Alex eventually escaped by forcing the door shut and revving his engine, scaring the two men back into their van.

After taking down the van’s registration number, he pulled into a nearby service station and called the police. He was treated by paramedics at the scene.
