Relaunch for newly-acquired title

Just four months after its purchase by Newsquest, the Wandsworth Borough News is to be relaunched on November 2.

South London Guardian, part of Newsquest (London), has announced a range of initiatives for the 120-year-old newspaper as the first stage of its plansfor the development of the newly acquired Dimbleby newspaper portfolio.

The initiatives will include:

  • Transfer to Newsquest presses increasing the colour availability;
  • Promotional blitz from now until Christmas to highlight the changes;
  • Minimum normal pagination of 56 from 28;
  • Enhanced leisure and sports coverage.

    There will be a full promotional campaign across the borough to emphasise the enhanced news service available.

    As part of the campaign the company will close its paid-for title, theWandsworth Comet, and the editorial team will be transferred to work on thenew title.

    “We have reviewed the newspaper, retained the elements which we believe will ensure we do not lose any of the current readership,” said editor-in-chief,Gloria Gray.

    “We are also adding increased sport, leisure and news content which we know, following the continued success of the Surrey Comet, will attract morereaders to the title.

    “The Surrey Comet has increased its circulation year on year since it waspurchased by Newsquest and is currently more than six per cent ahead of last year’s sales figure”.
