Readers prove generous in time of crisis

Generous readers of the Goole Times have donated almost £1,000 to victims of the recent floods.

The Yorkshire town was one of the worst-hit areas of the freak weather conditions and the newspaper appealed for readers to do whatever they could.

Since then, the newspaper has received £974 in donations and has been inundated with offers of furniture, clothing and household equipment.

The Gowdall Disaster Fund committee has arranged for the Salvation Army to collect the donated items.

East Riding Council has also announced no council tax will be payable on housable unhabitable due to the flooding.
