Readers lured to the pub by their local paper

A Welsh newspaper’s ‘surgery sessions’ with readers down the pub is to be featured in a national trade magazine.

The North Wales Chronicle offers readers the chance to go along and meet reporters at Bangor’s Wetherspoons pub each Friday lunchtime and the novel idea has been picked up on by the chain’s internal magazine.

The publication goes out to all 650 pubs in the country, plus countless other outlets.

Chronicle deputy editor, Claire Hart, said: “I’m really pleased that the potential of this idea has been picked up on.

“We’re a local paper so it’s great that local people can come and tell us their stories in a relaxed environment.”

Richard Bermingham, the reporter for Gwynedd, said: “The surgeries have been most successful, and we’ve developed some significant leads.”

The Chronicle Surgery takes place every Friday between 1pm and 2pm at Wetherspoons – the Black Bull Inn – on Bangor High Street.
