Readers get in on the Big Picture

Hundreds of Liverpool Echo readers have come forward to take part in the paper’s Big Picture Appeal to raise money for Alder Hey hospital.

In return for a donation, they get a photo of themselves placed on a huge mock-up of the Echo’s front page.

The first Big Picture board is complete and contains photos of 720 contributors towards a new cancer unit. They include Sir Paul McCartney, Lily Savage and pop band Atomic Kitten.

But most of the faces are those of ordinary people who have taken the cause to their heart.

The appeal aims to raise thousands of pounds for the children’s unit, which would be the first of its kind in the country.

Children being treated at the hospital currently have to cope with their illness in cramped and old-fashioned surroundings.
