Raise the profile of your newspaper

The major event of the year to help raise the profile of the regional press industry is now less than nine weeks away.

The Newspaper Society is preparing for Local Newspaper Week 2004 to raise the profile of the regional press industry.

The week, which runs from May 3, celebrates the role of regional newspapers, in terms of readership, editorial excellence and successful campaigning.

It is also used to promote the regional press as an effective advertising medium, for both local and national brands and advertisers.

A press pack provided to all UK regional newspapers by the Newspaper Society forms the basis of the coverage, but is adapted and personalised by newspapers to promote their own successes, scoops and campaigns.

The pack includes ideas for competitions, stories and events. It provides quotes on the regional press from a variety of personalities.

Syndicated articles will also be provided for exclusive publication in the regional press during Local Newspaper Week, and press packs are due to be sent out shortly.

The Newspaper Society’s Feature Link team is also encouraging their network of co-ordinators to get involved in Local Newspaper Week. Covering all of the UK’s 1,300 UK newspapers, they take a client’s editorial and advertising, and build local, branded advertising features.

Local Newspaper Week is seen as an ideal platform for creative promotions and is a good opportunity for companies to work in partnership with their local newspaper.
