Profits rise at media group

Scottish Radio Holdings’ press division has seen profits increase by 30 per cent, to £9.6m, in the past year.

Score Press, which publishes 43 local weekly newspapers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, saw revenues rise by 17 per cent.

The figures were announced as SRH unveiled its preliminary results for the year ending September 30 and showed that, as a whole, the company made profits of £16.9m before exceptional items, compared with £12.8m last year.

The company said that, with the addition of four new titles last year, it was pleased with the development of the Score Press division.

SRH chairman Lord Gordon of Strathblane said: “These results underline the strength of the SRH group and the strong growth in revenues and operating profits in our radio and press divisions is extremely encouraging.

“Both divisions produced outstanding performances during a year of still challenging market conditions.

“SRH is well placed for continued growth with its portfolio of radio stations in recognised geographical marketing areas and well-established press titles.

“The new financial year has started well with group revenues from continuing operations 11 per cent ahead of the same period last year.”

The company’s titles include the Longford Leader, Galloway Gazette, Carrick Gazette, Stornoway Gazette, Ballymena Times, Ballymoney Times, Banbridge Leader, Carrick Times, Coleraine Times, Dromore Leader, Larne Times, Londonderry Sentinel, Lurgan Mail, Midulster Mail, Portadown Times, Tyrone Times, Ulster Star, Brechin Advertiser, Deeside Piper, Donside Piper, Forfar Dispatch, Inverurie Herald, Kirriemuir and Mearns Leader.
