A piece of newspaper history has been uncovered at a car boot sale in Wales.

Eagle-eyed Mike Hughes found bound copies of the Rhyl Leader from 1927 to 1928 while he was rummaging for bargains at a car boot sale in Abergele.

He said: “I was amazed when I saw these, they are an important piece of local history. I thought it would be a shame if they went out of the area so I paid £35 for them.”

Now Mike is catching up with the goings on of yesteryear, when there were adverts on the front page, and you could pick up a two seater Rover for £139 or a Triumph motorcycle for just over £37.

At the time the council was also running a wiring scheme to help residents install electricity in their homes – 100 local houses had switched to electric in 1927.

Mike said: “This volume is a mine of information that makes fascinating reading and it is in good condition for its age.”
