Party time at the hive!

A Beehive-shaped caked covered with “smiley” bees was the centrepiece at celebrations to mark the second anniversary of two Midlands’ beehive community networks.

The Derbyshire and Leicestershire Beehive networks were launched in December 1999 as joint pilot projects for the nationwide Northcliffe initiative.

Kerry Williams held a party at the Leicester Mercury while Bimmy Rai organised a celebration at Cardinal Square in Derby.

The guest list included many of the Beehive groups that have featured on the bi-weekly Buzz page in the Derby Telegraph.

Special guests included the Mayor of Derby, Coun Janet Till, and the chief executive of Derbyshire Building Society, Peter Richardson.

The Derbyshire has sponsored the county’s Beehive network since it launched in December 1999 and is to renew its sponsorship for a third year.

  • Sarah Lay has become community publishing co-ordinator of the Beehive in three of the Midlands’ counties, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Journalist Sarah, who currently writes for thegoodwood.co.uk, has been working closely with the Beehive managers and also writes the Telegraph’s Buzz page.
