Old-fashioned launch for web innovation

Oyez, oyez. The Evening Press at York turned back the clock to deliver an urgent message to readers about hi-tech changes.

The paper brought in York’s town crier John Redpath to shout out to the city all about exciting new developments on the local entertainments scene.

His brief was to tell thousands of tourists and locals about the new Evening Press website, yorktwenty4seven, full of news, reviews and what’s on information covering the fast-growing entertainment scene in York and district.

And it coincided with the launch of a new weekly, in-paper magazine – also called yorktwenty4seven – offering coverage of the whole spectrum of York’s nightlife, including cinema, theatre, pubs or clubs information and a weekly montage of faces in pubs and clubs across the area.

Editor Kevin Booth (left) said: “York is rich in heritage and tradition but it also quickly and readily embraces modern changes.”

“With the city streets absolutely packed with Christmas shoppers from all over the world, what better way of delivering the message than a good, old-fashioned town crier?”
