Newsquest launches new weekly

A new free weekly newspaper for the West End of Glasgow is due to be launched later this month by Newsquest (Herald and Times Ltd).

The West End Mail will be distributed to more than 30,000 homes and, packed with news, arts, entertainment and fashion, it will aim to become a “must-read” newspaper for West End residents.

Edited by Ross McKay, who was the launch editor of the East Kilbride Mail, the paper will also have another two journalists producing original copy focussing on the concerns, aspirations and interests of local residents.

Publisher of the title is Steve McLaughlin, who was previously managing director of the East Kilbride Mail and has also worked for Score Press and Regional Independent Newspapers.

He said: “We are positive that readers in the West End of Glasgow – one of the Scotland’s most cosmopolitan and stylish areas – will welcome the arrival of a genuinely local, quality weekly newspaper.”

Owned by Newsquest Media Group and printed at the Herald and Evening Times print plant in Glasgow, the West End Mail is due to roll off the presses for the first time later this month and will be published midweek.

Its exact format has not yet been disclosed.

Tim Blott, managing director of Newsquest (Herald and Times Ltd), said: “We are delighted to be launching a weekly newspaper into such an exciting market, and we are sure that the West End Mail will prove to be popular with readers and highly effective for advertisers.”

  • The East Kilbride Mail is now owned by Forth Independent Newspapers Ltd after being launched as an independent by Steve and Crawford Brankin early in 2004.
