Newspaper trio throw themselves off castle…

Three Skegness Standard girls put their back into their work when they joined a local abseiling group to scale the walls of Tattershall Castle.

The trio made their drop in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

  • Becky Gunn (top) leads the way
  • And undettered by the cancellation of their planned abseil down Grimsby Dock Tower, chief reporter – and action-girl – Becky Gunn, reporter Marie Deeming and advertising sales representative Joanne Beach took up the 140ft challenge.

The Grimsby abseil was cancelled due to insurance problems but the newspaper girls turned instead to the local abseiling group for help.

First over the top was Becky, after the initial shock of the sheer height of the castle wore off she steadily climbed down to cheers from supporters on the ground.

Next up was Joanne Beach, perhaps the most confident of the trio, with a little “wiggle of her bottom”, according to the Standard, she climbed over the top and continued down full of smiles.

Experienced climber and abseiler Rachel followed a little more cautiously.

Although money has still to be collected, the threesome has between them raised about £700 for the cancer charity.
