Newspaper offices officially opened by Lord Rothermere

Newspaper proprietor Viscount Rothermere has officially opened the new offices of the Retford Times.

Lord Rothermere, chairman of the Northcliffe Newspapers Group which owns the Retford Times, marked the occasion by unveiling a plaque at the building in West Street, Retford.

He was then given a guided tour of the purpose-built offices by the managing editor of the Retford Times, Nick Purkiss.

  • The Times, which employs 23 staff, has moved from offices in nearby Chancery Lane, where it had been in its former building since 1928.

One of Northcliffe’s longest-serving employees, Lincolnshire Echo writer Bette Vickers, (pictured right), was on hand at the ceremony to cut a celebration cake.

Nick said: “It was a very proud moment for all of us.

“This move takes the Retford Times into a new era. We now have a building which reflects our place at the heart of the community.”

  • The Retford Times is one of Britain’s fastest-growing weekly newspapers. Over the last decade its sales have grown by more than one third, to 11,000 copies.
