Evening Herald investigations editor William Telford spent an evening with Plymouth’s pub and club door staff to get an insight into their work – and the people who try to blag their way in.
He found queues of youngsters with ID cards to prove their age, likening the queue to the checkpoint scene from the film, The Great Escape. By 1am 60 people have been turned away from one venue alone – mostly due to being drunk but many for being under-age.


A new chronicle of the history of Swindon is to be produced by The Advertiser, and the newspaper is asking readers to come forward with their own material to give the fullest-possible picture.
Editor Mark Waldron said: “This is a very ambitious project and we want it to be a people’s history. That’s why the involvement of readers is so important.”


Bristol Evening Post assistant editor Kevan Blackadder is to go back to work as a reporter for a day in support of a Marie Curie Cancer Care initiative Back to the Shop Floor.
He is hoping other managers across the region follow suit by returning to the jobs that they did many years ago.
