A new industry study has found that newspaper adverts included in multi-media campaigns can double brand commitment.
The project, from the Newspaper Marketing Agency, tested 12 ad campaigns to reach its conclusion. It said the high attention span needed to read a newspaper, compared with other media, made all the difference.


Two local causes have benefited from 150th anniversary celebrations for the Oldham Evening Chronicle.
The £750 proceeds of a golf day have gone to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, while a festival of carols raised a further £768, which will go to the Oldham Church Restoration Fund.


Archant Specialist, the consumer magazine division of community media group Archant, has announced the acquisition of Romsey Publishing Group, including the titles The English Home (ABC 86,092), The English Garden (group ABC 75,433), Heritage (ABC 64,514), Canal Boat, Sporting Shooter, Air Gunner and Airgun World.
All the titles and all 70 staff members will transfer to Archant Specialist and will remain in their current location for the immediate future. Romsey Publishing was established in 1984 and has offices in Wokingham and London.


The Newspaper Society has hosted a lunch for shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, where matters discussed included food advertising and NHS online recruitment.
The Advertising Association’s director-general Andrew Brown also joined the lunch, alongside Hamish Pringle, director-general of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and Ian Locks, chief executive of the Periodical Publishers Association.


The Lancashire Evening Post has been praised in parliament for its work to highlight the “sick trade” in suicide manuals and Internet sites encouraging self-harm.
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans added an amendment congratulating the paper to a motion calling on the Government to take legal action against those encouraging people to harm themselves.
