South Wales Argus editor Gerry Keighley has joined the board of Newport’s Urban Regeneration Company.
He is one of three new non-executive members of Newport Unlimited, which aims to develop the city into a centre for business, leisure and living.


Staff at the Express & Star in Wolverhampton have been touring the city on a news bus to meet readers and find out what issues are important to them.
The two-week tour is part of the paper’s Build a Better Black Country campaign aimed at highlighting the success of the area.


A Scottish charity will this month open a second home for abandoned children with HIV in Romania, thanks partly to the generosity of readers of The Herald in Glasgow.
Following an appeal by the newspaper, more than 150 readers pledged to help fund the running costs of the home, also giving more than £15,000 in one-off donations.


The Hull Daily Mail’s Beehive Internet project is celebrating its third birthday.
Since launching in May 2000 it has gone from strength to strength and is now home to almost 900 charity, society and club websites and attracts more than 120,000 users each month.


The Evening Express has raised £6,000 for local charities with its Children 2000 family fun day and duck race.
Thousands of families lined the banks of the Dee for the event, and the crowd went quackers.
Editor Donald Martin said: “We are absolutely delighted to raise so much money for Children 2000.”
