New media and the regional press

Speakers from the regional press will focus on new media during the two-day Newspaper Society Senior Management Forum which starts tomorrow.

The event takes place at The Waldorf, London, and coincides with the 2000 Newspaper Awards – the only awards dedicated to newspaper production.

Speakers at the conference include:

  • Mike Masters, group managing director publishing UK & Ireland, Trinity Mirror plc on the changing face of the regional press and a vision of the future;
  • Keith Perch, editor, Derby Evening Telegraph on the future of the newsroom, the effects of new media and the best structure for the future;
  • Alec Davidson, managing director, Northcliffe Newspapers on the future of regional press online;

Other speakers and subjects include:

  • Tim Bowdler, chief executive, Johnston Press plc on the news study into the regulations surrounding the regional press and media ownership;
  • Jonathan Turpin, chief executive, Fish4 on the Internet as a national or local medium and regional press strategies for protecting classified advertising;
  • Carol Fisher, chief executive, COI with a client perspective on advertising in the regional press;
  • Simon Foster, communications planning director, Initiative Media on the agency perspective of using the regional press and the future of the media market;
  • Mike Anderson, managing director, Metro on the emergence of Metro and its effects, strengths, weaknesses and future plans.

The Senior Management Forum will include question and answer sessions on electronic publishing issues and advertising. Day one of the conference will be chaired by Constantine Kamaras, director newspaper management and marketing, World Association of Newspapers and day two will be chaired by Denise West, managing director, Insider Group.

The 2000 Newspaper Awards will be held on 5 April at the Great Room, Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.
