New MD for south coast publisher

Paul Kinvig has been appointed managing director of Newsquest (Weymouth).

Currently publisher of the Hampshire Chronicle Series in Winchester, he will take up his new role on April 4, reporting to Mike Wright, managing director, Newsquest (Dorset).

  • Newsquest’s Weymouth centre publishes the daily Dorset Echo, two paid-for weeklies – the Bridport News and the Lyme Regis News – and the free Advertiser Series.

    Paul, (41), began his newspaper career in 1988 with Northcliffe Newspapers at Sentinel Newspapers in Stoke-on-Trent, and has since held a variety of advertising roles at the Carmarthen Journal, the Western Morning News in Plymouth, the Daily Echo in Bournemouth and the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton.

    He was appointed publisher of the Hampshire Chronicle Series in Winchester in March 2000.

  • Paul succeeds Alex Cummings who retires on April 1 after a newspaper career spanning more than 40 years.

    Alex was appointed general manager of Newsquest’s Weymouth operation in January 1997 and managing director in November 2000.

    He was also previously general manager and executive editor of the Advertiser free newspaper series – circulating in parts of Dorset and Hampshire – and the editor of its paid-for predecessor, the Times Herald group.
