New MD for island publisher

Paul Carter has been appointed managing director of the Guernsey Press Ltd, publishers of the Guernsey Press and Star.

Previously deputy managing director of the Guernsey Press, his appointment follows a reorganisation of parent group Guiton’s publishing interests into a new company, Guiton Publishing Ltd.

Guiton also publishes the Jersey Evening Post, and in addition to his new responsibilities Paul will remain a director of the Jersey title.

Until recently he also headed up the advertising action committee for The Newspaper Society.

John Averty, chief executive of the Guiton Group, has been appointed chairman of Guiton Publishing and will continue to chair each island’s newspaper company.

Jerry Ramsden has been appointed managing director of Guiton Publishing Ltd and remains a director of the Guernsey Press and managing director of the Jersey Evening Post.

The Guiton Group has two further divisions, CI Newsagent Group, a retail and wholesale subsidiary which trades in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Isle of Wight, and Itex, the largest computer services provider in the Channel Islands.

The Guiton Group itself is wholly owned by Claverley, owners of West Midlands newspapers the Wolverhampton Express and Star and the Shropshire Star.
