New era for Echo

The Fishguard County Echo has begun a new era, with the replacement of its general manager.

Des Turner has left the weekly newspaper after 19 years of service to take up a role with Dyfed-Powys Police.

After joining the County Echo in 1982 as a junior reporter, Des climbed the promotion ladder to reach the rank managing production editor.

Mr Turner was presented with a cheque from owners Tindle Newspapers and special cake, as the newspapers employees celebrated his 19 years of service.

He has been replaced by Lis Owen Jones, assistant general manager at sister paper, Cambrian News.

Lis will now perform a dual role in keeping both newspapers running smoothly.

She said: “I’m delighted to be taking over from Des, I will be spending two days a week down in Fishguard in my new capacity and am looking forward to the challenge.”
