National award for sub's anti-bullying site

Bullying Online, the charity founded and run by Yorkshire Evening Post sub editor Liz Carnell, which helps parents and pupils deal with school bullying, has won a national award.

It is the winner of the Digital Inclusion category, sponsored by BT, of the UK eWell-Being Awards 2003 for work to reduce social exclusion.

The Bullying Online website, www.bullying.co.uk has had more than 325,000 visitors in the past four years with volunteers responding to over 16,000 emails.

The award judges said: “Bullying is a problem often ignored and it is rarely addressed with such commitment and consideration for those affected. This is a brave and inspiring project with very encouraging results.”

The site went “live” in April 1999 and had more than 44,000 visitors in its first year.
