More readers reached as Post initiative goes online

The Bristol Evening Post is aiming to further raise the profile of its hard-hitting cancer campaign with the launch of a new dedicated website.

The paper launched its campaign – labelled One in Four because the disease claims a life every four minutes, with one in four people eventually succumbing to it – in September.

As well as raising money for local cancer services, it aims to raise awareness of the symptoms and what people can do to reduce the risks of developing it, and the paper is hoping the new website will allow it to reach even more people with its message.

Evening Post editor Mike Lowe said: “This is an initiative that people are talking about. The response from our readers has been phenomenal.

“We are already making a difference by raising awareness and paying for some of the services and items that cancer charities and health chiefs have asked us to buy.

“There can hardly be a family in Bristol that doesn’t know someone who has died of cancer.

“It’s for that reason that we have launched the campaign website. We want to reach as many people as possible.”

The website, which has been put together in partnership with the Beehive Community Network, which provides free websites for charities and voluntary groups, includes facts on breast, lung, bowel and prostate cancers.

It also has personal stories from the families of people who have died of cancer and a full list of all those who have donated money to the campaign.

The website can be found at: www.thisisbristol.co.uk/1in4.

  • The campaign’s initial fundraising target of £25,000 to improve the region’s cancer care services is already in sight. In just six weeks the paper has raised enough money to buy all but four of the 21 items on its wish list.
