Media partner to boost hospice project

A unique home care project for children with incurable conditions has been launched in the Scottish Highlands and Moray … with backing from Scottish Provincial Press, the biggest newspaper publisher in the area.

The project is being run by the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, with three years of funding from the New Opportunities Fund.

It is estimated that there are 1,200 families throughout Scotland who have one or more children with incurable conditions.

The charity already operates Rachel House at Kinross and is currently building a second hospice for children at Loch Lomond, which will be called Rachel House at Home.

SPP managing editor Nick Hunter said: “Scottish Provincial Press, with a circulation of over 107,000 in the Highlands and Moray, was chosen as media partner with CHAS as our papers can spread the word and raise awareness of the Rachel House at Home project better than any other medium.

“We are delighted to accept and hope many of our readers will take this project to their hearts and ensure it continues long after the present three-year funding runs out.

“Having spoken to parents at Rachel House, I know how grateful they are to the CHAS carers and how much even a couple of days’ respite can mean to them, knowing their children are in safe and expert hands.”

  • Scottish Provincial Press owns 15 newspapers in north and north-east Scotland with 11 circulating in the area covered by the CHAS project.
