Leicestershire Beehive publishes 300th site

The Beehive Online Community Network at thisisleicestershire, which gives non-profit-making groups the chance to create and publish websites free of charge, has reached a landmark of 300 sites.

With the help of the Leicester Mercury’s Beehive co-ordinator Kerry Williams, five students created the 300th site for New College in Leicester in two days.

During a residency at New College, Kerry guided the 15 and 16-year-olds through the site-building process and gave them a crash course in using the Beehive Community Network.

Each team member took on a role to complete the various features of site building and boosted their computer skills as a result.

Katie Frost, one of the five students who helped build the site said: “Each person’s role was important, and we wanted to make sure that ourselves and others got the best out of our website.

“The team worked well together and enjoyed the task that was set. It was enjoyable to know that a small team of people had done something to contribute to a school with so many people. Doing the challenge will be useful in the future because of skills learned.”
