Libel law date announced

Legendary libel lawyer Peter Carter-Ruck will reveal the secrets he used to charge thousands for at a special Media Law Update day.

The event, in London on Saturday March 17, will be a rare opportunity to get first-hand practical advice on the tangle of current – and forthcoming – legislation from two of the foremost experts in the field.

Long regarded as the authority on defamation, Peter Carter-Ruck will not only give an update on all the recent developments in libel law and recent judgements which affect websites but he’ll reveal the many methods he knows to avoid a libel action altogether – and how to handle it if you are hit by one.

Surveying a mass of other new developments will be ‘newsdesk lawyer’ Mike Dodd, who has 32 years’ experience in journalism, the past 20 of them as a copy editor with the Press Association.

He was one of the first journalists to realise the dangers posed to the press over reporting crime involving juveniles by the original terms of what is now the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999.
