Journalists open up about 'life on the receiving end'

Journalists forced to flee their own countries were today hosting an event to talk about their experiences and reporting on refugees.

The meeting, On the Receiving End – exiled journalists in the UK, organised by the Mediawise press watchdog organisation, is taking place in London.

It is an opportunity for media professionals in London to meet colleagues from the Exiled Journalists Network who have been driven from home for just doing their job.

The event marks the publication of a new NUJ/MediaWise leaflet on Reporting Refugees, the European Week on Action (March 15-21) on coverage of refugee and asylum issues, and the appointment of Forward Maisokwadzo as the Refugees, Asylum-seekers and Media Project communications officer.

It includes a screening of a short video On The Receiving End.

Among the speakers are Jeremy Dear, general secretary of the National Union of Journalists, Forward Maisokwadzu, Terry Williams, RAM national co-ordinator, and Arop Madut-Arop, from Sudan.

The event is due to take place at The Frontline Club, 13 Norfolk Place, London, W2 1QJ, from 6.30pm – 9pm.
