Jamie gets set for 10km challenge

A Merseymart and Star journalist is gearing up for a 10km run to raise money for charity.

Reporter Jamie McLoughlin is currently in training for the L1310K event which will take place on the streets of Liverpool in October.

He will be raising cash for the Sunrise Fund – the charity of the Merseymart and Star’s sister paper the Liverpool Echo.

Jamie, (27), said: “I did a year of fitness in 2002 to prepare for a 5km run after eight months of training, going to the gym three times a week.

“Then I had to sit my senior Trinity Mirror journalism certificate and never really got back into the training rhythm.

“This will allow me to get back into shape, and it’s something I really enjoy. It’s quite a challenge but for a good cause.”

Jamie has been training for the past three weeks and says he is slowly building up to full fitness for the race.

He said: “I’m aiming to raise as much as I can. We have invited readers to sponsor me and I’ll be writing regular progress checks and keeping readers informed of any important parts of the training.”

• The Merseymart and Star is published every Thursday.
