A weekly newspaper in Cheshire stepped in to speed up the search for a war hero’s old home – and got a result within the week.

London solicitor Duncan McNair visited Middlewich with his mum in a bid to find the home where his father stayed during the war.

After an appeal in the Winsford and Middlewich Guardian, a man who used to live there got in touch with news of Squadron Leader Robin McNair’s old address.

Reader Eric Weedall also sent some photos of the airman and the family he stayed with 60 years ago.
