'How we broke news to the world'

The Carlisle News and Star has been telling readers how it broke the news of their football team’s survival to the world.

The paper’s website, www.news-and-star.co.uk had a running report on the action at Brighton’s Withdean Stadium and updates from other relegation clashes involving Shrewsbury and Chester.

Although Carlisle lost, other results ensured their survival in Division 3.

“We were the first to tell United fans across the globe that their team had lived to fight another day in the Football League,” the paper said.

Last month, the News & Star put on free buses for fans to travel to United’s match with Chester, where a last-minute win kept the club’s hopes alive.
