Homes for 10 most unwanted

The animal-loving Leicester Mercury has been finding homes for some of the city’s most needy creatures.

In June, the newspaper highlighted the 10 most unwanted who were all in desperate need of a loving home. These included dogs, goats and even pot-bollied pigs! The campaign showed a picture of each animal along with a profile of their history and character.

Since then the response has been impressive with only three of the 10 still needing a home.

The latest animal to be snapped up by a Mercury reader is Buster the Rottweiller who now lives with Sue Hanman and her daughter Fiona.

They saw the appeal and went to see Buster in a local animal home where it was love at first site.

Sue said: “I am amazed at how good he is. He is definitely a permanent part of our family and hopefully it will push someone else to home an animal.”

The Leicester Mercury has now placed six of the ‘Leicester 10′ as they have been dubbed.

Perhaps surprisingly, amongst the first to find homes were the two pot bellied pigs!

Now the newspaper is renewing its efforts to try to home the remaining three animals. These are Lucy the goat, Ben the terrier and Lucky, an 18-month-old German Shepherd.

The 10th animal, a dog called Sam, had to be put down after biting a handler.
