'Hello Glastonbury' – even if it is just the working men's club

A newsman’s dream of announcing “Hello Glastonbury” from the main stage at the country’s premier music event will remain just that – a dream.

Clinton Rogers and his band Shattered Acoustics was hoping to make the grade for an all-comers spot for unsigned performers at the Somerset festival at the end of June.

The former Wellington Weekly News man went along for the audition – but reckoned without national competition from dozens of performers from all over the country.

He headed to Pilton Working Men’s Club dreaming of the chance to appear on the same bill as Paul McCartney, James Brown and Oasis, but left disappointed.

Clinton, now a television newsman, said: “We thought it was just for local groups but they came from all over the country. We were the only local group taking part.

“I thought we didn’t do too badly and we were offered a gig at the club so we didn’t come away empty-handed.”

The winners were a group from Leeds, Bodica, who have already released two albums.
