Good news on readership from two titles

Leicester Mercury editor Nick Carter is delighted with the progress of his paper eight months after its major redesign.

A readership survey says that 13,000 more people are reading the newspaper daily than was the case 12 months before.

Mr Carter said: “There is still a long way to go – particularly to turn the increase in readership into hard newspaper sales. But we believe we have made a huge step forward and have a much firmer foundation on which to build future success.” More….

Meanwhile, a similar survey carried out in Sunderland has confirmed the dominance of the Echo in its local market. On average 47 per cent of the adult population in the circulation area read it every day.

Editor Andrew Smith said: “It is also a great strength of the Echo that it is as popular in the executive, detached homes of the city as on the big housing estates and in the terraced cottages, and that it is of interest to both young and old alike.” More….
