Galbraith is Scottish chairman

The Scottish region of the Society of Editors has elected its first woman to the chair.

Ann Galbraith, editor of the Ayr Advertiser will be joined by Sallyanne Duncan, lecturer in journalism at University of Paisley, as her vice chairman.

Ann said that during the past two years the Society in Scotland had been seeking a higher profile, which she thought had been achieved.

Her aim would be to build on that as the society was an important voice for all Scottish editors.

She expressed the thanks of all the members to Drew Cochrane, who had taken over the chair at short notice and ensured the successful continuation of the Scottish Society.

Drew Cochrane, editor of the Largs and Millport Weekly News, who was ending his second term as chairman, reported to AGM on a busy year during which the society had visited the Scottish Executive, held its annual seminar and conference in Glasgow, and visited Brussels.

Donald Fullarton was re-elected secretary and briefing correspondent. The treasurer will be Drew Cochrane, and Bill Livingstone, editorial director of Dumferline Press, will continue as membership secretary.
