Fowler launches media solutions venture

Former Western Mail editor Neil Fowler is launching his own PR business: Neil Fowler Communications.

The new business will build on Neil’s knowledge of Wales and of the British media industry, utilizing his wide range of contacts and his experience of both.

He was editor of the Lincolnshire Echo in 1984 at the age of 29, then Northcliffe Newspapers’ youngest daily editor, then became editor of the Derby Evening Telegraph in 1987 before moving to Newcastle to edit The Journal in 1991, prior to making his move to Wales in 1994.

The agency has been developed so that it has links to businesses in all areas of media management and sectors such as advertising, events, strategy, research and front-line public relations provision. The associates will work with Neil Fowler Communications, when necessary, to offer total packages to large and small organisations in both the private and public sectors.

Media solutions on offer will include:

  • Communications, media and lobbying strategies and delivery for organisations in Wales;
  • The same service for organisations outside Wales that need a Welsh presence;
  • Front line PR, crisis management and representation;
  • Training and development for the press and broadcasting industry.

    Neil, (46), pictured, said: “When I left The Western Mail in August I said that I hoped to remain in Wales and I’m very happy that that wish has been fulfilled.

    “The country has changed radically in recent years and I hope to contribute further to its development both in assisting organisations already here and those who wish to have knowledge of the country.

    “I’ve built up an excellent range of contacts in the country over my eight and half years here and I look forward to working with many of them over the coming months and years.

    “I’m also looking forward to using my many years of experience in editing four very different daily newspapers to working with the print and broadcasting industries.”

    He has been a significant player in the business and public life of Wales in his time as editor there. He founded the Business Awards for Wales and helped build the Welsh Woman of the Year to the major event it is now.

    He began his career in journalism as a trainee reporter with the Leicester Mercury in 1978, and is a past president of the Society of Editors.
