Former editor Leys becomes MD

Several senior appointments have been announced at Northcliffe Newspapers.

The moves will see former editor Alex Leys become managing director of the Nottingham Evening Post.

Alex’s track record includes editorships of the Lincolnshire Echo, Derby Evening Telegraph and Leicester Mercury and main board directorship between 1995 and 1999.

He is currently chief executive of the South East Weeklies in Chelmsford and Tunbridge Wells. Finance director Paul Newman will take on management of the South East publishing interests until a successor is found for Alex.

Steve Anderson-Dixon, currently managing director at the Post, is to join the main group board to become group advertisement director.

His new role will see him take on responsibility for local, regional and national advertising issues.

His 20-year Northcliffe career includes spells at the Lincoln, Gloucester, Derby and Nottingham centres.

Richard Dodd is to relinquish his role as group circulation director to concentrate on his responsibilities as managing director in Stoke, and Ted Glynn, who is currently group marketing manager, will become group circulation and marketing director.

Ted has been with the company for 16 years in a number of commercial roles and is currently chairman of newspaper readership statistics resource JICREG.

The changes will be effective from January 21.
